Smallholder farmers in Nigeria suffer 50% oil loss every year due to the inefficient (manual) processing technique and approximately 500 smallholder farmers in rural area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria palm fruits grown go unprocessed due to lack of access to capital and modern processing machinery. And the market value for palm oil products for cooking and for industrial applications is currently estimated at about $52million. If the inefficiencies described above are eliminated, smallholders could produce upward of $100million worth of palm oil per annum. It is in response to this, that the project aim to improve smallholder farmers productivity, meet the growing market demand for palm oil and ultimately increases incomes livelihoods for smallholder farmers.
